History

The first Yakita centre was created in 1999 by David and Joyce Djaelani Gordon after after much work with addicts in Indonesia and recognising a need for a quality program in the country. David is a recovered addict who has seen it all and understands addiction and recovery through decades of working with individuals who have a problem with addiction. Joyce is an Indonesian psychologist with an impressive understanding of the wider problem faced through addiction.

There are 12 centres around Indonesia where drugs and addiction are most prevalent. These centres also outreach to the local community to provide support. The organisation is funded by a variety of organisations that collaborate with the Yakita organisation because they want to help solve the problem of drug addiction in Indonesia. There are few support structures to help those suffering with addictions and the many associated problems that exist within an addicts life.

Yakita helps addicts reconnect with their local community. Yakita organises a series of outreach programs within prisons and youth groups and these operations are organised by staff and volunteers. These are some of the best recovery workers in Indonesia.
